the only thing i see as a problem is it seems like you have to be in the game from the very start or you just lose out on information.

but this i guess could be solved by only allowing players in at the start, this then makes me wonder how many people play this game at the same time its perplexing the amount of back ground work that would be needed to run this style of game.

Here is a site devoted to ARGs. It is weird that I have never heard of them. It would definitely be more fun to play them than run them. Here is one called Year Zero
