Lucidity (A game about bleeding madness and dreams into reality)
Lucid dreaming is knowing you are dreaming while you are dreaming.
Lucidity is a game of constructed delusions inspired by De Profundis 2nd edition.
In it players play themselves learning lucid dreaming techniques and attracting the attentions of lovecraftian nightmares that dwell in the subjective spaces between realities.
The game plays out on the forum at first, the players post fragments of half remembered dreams that begin to mix with creeping otherworldly dread.
The players will need to develop reliable dream recall so that their posts will be at at least partially based on real dreams.
An ancient and rather common way of inducing dreams is Dream Incubation.
You take an idea or theme you want to dream about and saturate your mind and senses with anything related to that theme or idea until eventually you find yourself dreaming about it.
This is how the game will work, now that you have started playing (and you started playing as soon as you started reading this post, often all it can take is to hear about lucid dreams and you will start having them,) your subconscious will become infected by Lucidity and eventually the game will bleed over into your dreamlife.
So now that we have started, you need to begin practice memorizing your dreams first thing in the morning before you get out of bed.
Make it a habit that as soon as you open your eyes you ask yourself, "what was I just dreaming about?"
Then look for reoccurring people, objects, situations places, things that keep on appearing the most in your dreams. Some people find a journal helps with this side of things.
This reoccurring dream thing is a Dream Sign, when you see it ask yourself "am I dreaming," and really check. Can you remember what you were doing half an hour ago, what about half an hour before that? Try to jump higher than possible, if you can, well that is big hint.
If you are half-assed about it in waking life, you will be half-assed when you do it in a dream and probably assume you are awake, missing a chance to get lucid.
Checking whether you are awake or asleep during the day is known as Critical State Testing and can be done at regular intervals, some folks use a watch or phone alarm to remind them to check.
I know it sounds stupid, but all these practices are types of mnemonic techniques, deliberately created habits that will carry over to your dreamlife and provide an assortment of triggers to spark lucidity while you are dreaming.
Eventually your watch or phone will buzz and you will realize you are in a dream.
So those are the basics
Increase your Dream Recall.
Learn and look for your Dream Signs.
Use Critical State Testing regularly and when you encounter a dream sign.
Dont worry about dream incubation, it is a passive technique, playing Lucidity will get the process started, trying too hard will cause interference, just let it happen, practice the techniques and let your subconscious do the rest.
One more thing when you get lucid, dont look in mirrors while if you have a weak heart.
Eventually playing Lucidity will become a dreamsign itself and every time you go to play it you will have to check whether you are playing it in the waking world or the dreaming one.
